Practised at Farris as a labour and business litigator. Moved to Davis (now DLA Piper) and helped it grow to one of Canada’s top national firms. While at DLA Piper, served as Chair of the Employment and Labour Group, Chair of the Government Relations Group and became an expert in administrative law, executive employment, shareholder remedies, and negotiations. Attended Harvard Law School Lawyer Programs in Advanced Negotiation and Mediation and was retained as an Instructor in its Mediation Program.

Acted as business counsel for British Columbia's major corporations in regulatory, labour, employment, and commercial law. Became interested in start-ups and growth companies and acted for venture businesses in tech, the internet and virtual markets. Led a national lawyer team acting for Harmon International’s acquisition of QNX Software Systems.

Moved to Beadle Raven LLP, a business law boutique, to specialize as a low-cost, strategic general counsel to growth businesses, and then began to practice on his own, associating with complementary business firms.
